Personal Best is the Peak Flow Meter you want.Sep 03, 2010

My five children and I have asthma. Our peak flow meters are important tools in managing our symptoms and medication. There are lots of choices out there -- some meters are digital, some fancy, some expensive; but the one I like best is cheap, simple and super. It's Personal Best. The features that make it the best are: it's super sanitary. You can hand wash it or put it in the dishwasher. Also, there's enough room on it to put a name on each one. Look, there's a case that comes attached to it. The case becomes the handle, and then the case keeps the meter clean when you carry it in your purse. And also, the case makes a little stand so you can stand the meter up on the table while you're looking at the numbers. It's easy to slide the color markers to mark your zones, so you can see if you're in the yellow zone, the green zone, or -- God forbid -- the red zone. There is a low-flow version of the Personal Best meter that's perfect for younger children, and when kids get taller they graduate up to the full-range version. I use the full-range version, of course.
I had asthma as a child and we didn't have these peak flow meters then. I remember waiting in the emergency room, wondering how badly I was wheezing. If we had a peak flow meter, we would have known how badly I was wheezing, and we would have known for sure if we needed to be in the emergency room or not. If the doctor has told you that you might be wheezing, or your child might have asthma, then go ahead and get one of these. You won't be sorry.

Great!Mar 25, 2008

My allergist suggested that I buy one of these "peak flow meters" because I sometimes feel short of breath. This device measures how much wind you can blow out and lets you know where you are with your breathing. I found out that I breathe normally and most of the problem was in my head. So any time I am feeling short of breath, I can measure my breathing to find out what's up. I highly recommend this Peak Flow Meter for its design, compact self-carrying case and ease of use. For some reason,I could not get one at my local pharmacy, but they were right here on Amazon.com.

important health toolNov 06, 2010
By rural girl I have had asthma for many years and thankfully, my physician, recommended that I use one of these. A problem with having asthma is that you can't always tell when you're really having a problem, because your breathing is usually constricted ... so this breath meter helps you know when you're having a problem and when you're having anxiety. One thing to keep in mind, is that it is good to use this with your physician, so they can tell you what is ideal for you, and what number you should start worrying about and what number you should go to the emergency room.
This particular meter is super because it folds up pretty small and you can take it hiking or stick it in your purse ...

Neat, handy, reliable but a little priceyMay 30, 2010
By domino113 My allergist asked me to keep a record of my expiratory volume. This was very easy to obtain through Amazon, easy to use, easy to store. I wish that it had cost a bit less.Seems durable; I expect it to last a long time.
