5Best benzoyl peroxide treatment, much cheaper than ProactivApr 12, 2010
By Lindsay Bluth
Proactiv is wildly overpriced, but people swear by it - but they're only really swearing by benzoyl peroxide. I have a regimen that's actually better, since it provides sun protection when you go outside. Just google - any sort of acne ingredient makes your skin sensitive to the sun, and if you DON'T use an spf every day, you're at greater risk for skin cancer!

Clear Pore is 3.5% benzoyl peroxide in a creamy, calming cleanser. It's the absolute best and cheapest cleanser for the money. It's not the greatest mask, though, since it doesn't have the right ingredients for a mask. Use Clear Pore combined with a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel or cream at night - acne dot org works, or Proactiv's lotion only (which you can buy on Amazon, much cheaper than the Proactiv website). Solvere Acne clearing gel is also 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.

Use a sulphur/clay mask once a week (after you've steamed your face in the shower or with a hot washcloth held over your face) to really clear things out - either Queen Helene or Proactiv's mask (also on Amazon, much cheaper than on their website).

Be SURE to use a moisturizer in the morning after washing your face (such as Clean & Clear spf 15, Aveeno Positively Radiant spf 15 or 30, or Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45). Use spf 30 if it's the summer time, and use spf 45 if you live in a very sunny area. These moisturizers are perfect because don't have titanium dioxide or zinc oxide - two physical sunscreen blockers that cash a white sheen over your face. Beware of Neutrogena Healthy Defense spf 30 - it has titanium dioxide.

Always be sure your face has dried for 10 minutes after you've patted it dry before you put on your moisturizer, day or night! If your skin is dry or flaky at all, try Purpose Wash at night. It's clinically shown as gentle as water, but still cleans your face.

This regimen works for anyone with mild to moderate-severe acne; it likely won't work with cystic (multiple huge painful) acne, for that you still need to go to a dermatologist. I developed this regimen after spending far too much money for years on the multi step proactiv. I had moderate acne, now I have one pimple a month with my period!

So, to review:

AM:
Wash: Neutrogena Clear Pore
Moisturizer: Clean & Clear spf 15, or Aveeno Positively Radiant spf 15 or 30, or Neutrogena Healthy Defense spf 45

PM:
Wash: Neutrogena Clear Pore or Purpose Wash
Moisturize/Treatmentr: Proactiv lotion, acne dot org benzoyl peroxide gel, Solvere Acne Clearing gel

Weekly: Proactiv Mask (6% sulphur) or Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask
Spot Treatment on a pimple: Neutrogena Clear Pore, either of the masks, Murad spot treatment

5Great for adults with acne.Oct 05, 2007
By blackcatmama
I still have acne as an adult, and I searched forever for a product that had benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient because it doesn't over dry my skin. This cleanser goes a long way on your face; you don't need alot of it. It doesn't burn, but it can got warm if left on as a mask. This product has helped me get my acne under control and to a minimum. I use it twice daily (morning and night) and maybe a third time, depending on my activities during the day. Warning: It will burn like fire in your eyes.

2ok productMar 05, 2012
By MrsSuperman
I have sensitive skin so I thought the 3.5% BP wouldn't irritate my skin as much as Oxy's 10%. This cleanser didn't help with my acne nor did it make it worse. I liked that it had menthol in it so it gives a cooling affect as you cleanse. I also notice my skin was turning pale, almost white, so it's a little disturbing to have a white face and tan body. So I agree that BP does bleach the skin.

3Worked okay but really dried my skinAug 27, 2011
By Megan Thruston
I used this cleanser primarily for acne control, and in that regard it worked pretty well. I never had any significant breakouts while using it and it did help clear up some of the zits I already had. I also liked the liquid itself -- it was thin but not soupy and it was easy to apply and rinse off.

The reason that I stopped using it was because it made the skin on my cheeks and nose really dry and tight. It was so bad that even after I stopped using this wash, it took a week of applying and reapplying heavy-duty moisturizer before my skin finally returned back to normal. I know that dryness can be a side effect of benzoyl peroxide but I had previously tried several stronger BP washes without having this problem, so clearly there is something different in this cleanser that is particularly drying.

5Perfect for dry skin.Mar 18, 2012
By Aunt Sam
I have been a St. Ives facial cleanser user forever. That brand works perfectly on me, as I have sensitive skin that overdries easily.

But last year moved to a place with a different kind of water which has been making me break out. The St. Ives wasn't doing it anymore..I needed something stronger. I tried a few different cleaners, but this one was the only one that eliminated pimples without overdrying my face.
