3Great flavor but a shorter effect!May 21, 2012

My mom buys these at CVS because she used to be on B-12 shots but the doctor decided to put her on a B-12 sub-lingual when the shots had a limited effect. Almost right away, she could tell the difference in energy. So, when the doctor recommended that I take B-12 as well, I knew which kind to take. However, after finding out that they were Cyanocobalamin, I wondered if it was as good as it said it was.

I used to work in a health food store in the nutrition department and learned a lot about vitamins and minerals in the short time I was there. I have a natural interest in all things related to health and nutrition so I learned as much as I could through attending seminars and doing my own research on the internet. I learned that Methylcobalamin is the active form of B-12 and is better absorbed by the body. If you take cyanocobalamin, your body has to convert it into methylcobalamin before absorption can take place. This means that the B-12 is not absorbed as readily and you don't get the same effect as the Methyl version. Also, B vitamins are water soluble so they have to be replaced more often to get the best effect. Chances are, if you are taking the cyano version, you are not getting your money's worth and would be better off purchasing the different kind.

You can find methylcobalamin in the sublingual and liquid form at health stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. Sometimes, even Walmart will sell it. Just make sure you look at that label!
