I love the door, it has made my life so much more convenient, the collars are horrible. I have had as many collars (if not more) to equal the cost of the door.
The collar front will pop off, leaving the back and losing the battery, creating a treasure hunt for the front and/or the battery. They seem to short out randomly, most often with the dachshund than the beagle and it could just be proximity to ground and rain and snow but randomly, it will just stop working- doesn't need to be in a storm, and replacing the battery doesn't help. These times are horrible because you can't find a collar in a store nearby so you need to order an extra for times like these so you don't have to wait.
A minor flaw is that is has to be on this ugly black cord, they don't make it large enough or the hole thick enough to fit on a normal collar so the dog always has two collars on... I guess you could sew it?
Overall, the collar is a necessary evil to use the door, so I have to keep purchasing them but if the makers of the product could invent something more substantial, I would fully love and recommend this door/collar to everyone.

I agree with the others... This collar is a pain in the bootie! Can't get it wet, the collar is not a good design, and sometimes the buttons get a bit stuck. But, if you want the door, you get the collar.
These are things I have done to improve the collar:
1. Bought adhesive velcro (3/4" width and cut it in half), slid half of the velcro through the collar adapter and stuck it to our pups regular collars with the velcro attachment.
2. Bought 7.5" cable ties and cable tied each one shut and clipped off the excess (Don't buy shorter ones, b/c they aren't long enough to get cinched).
3. Get spare batteries.
4. Remember to take the velcro'ed sensors off before letting them swim (OOPS)

I love, love, love this door! When I rescued my dog 4 years ago I had to figure out how he could get in and out to do his business but at the same time keep my 3 cats from getting out while I am at work. I too live in a very rural area and really don't want any unwanted guests visiting (skunks, raccoons etc). The first time I needed a new battery I went to the local Batteries Plus with the old battery and when I got home and replaced it the collar didn't work. I then ordered a replacement battery from the manufacturer and when that arrived the collar still did not work. Ultimately, I purchased a new collar and I have probably spent as much money on the collars and I did on the door. I would love it if the high tech folks could figure out how to make the collar WORK!!!!!!!!!!!! There is always a though in the back of my mind, "When is the collar going to CRASH"? Please do your magic and make the collar better! Thanks

Excellent product although the collar that comes with it is rather weak. Most of mine have given out after a few weeks of consistent use, so I use my own dog collar. It would be nice if the plastic was a bit stronger where the3 collar slides through to keep from breaking/chiping if it hits something when the dogs play.
