Excellent product - especially when applied like lipstickJul 30, 2009
By C. Song I use the Coppertone Sport 50 SPF lotion for my body, however use this 30 SPF stick for my face. I use it as I would lipstick - I simply rub the stick across all the parts of my face that I want protected from the sun. It's got a waxy texture, so it sticks to your skin immediately - plus, it's so quick to use! I rub the stick on all parts of my face, don't have to wait for consistency/color/etc to be absorbed into my skin, and it's also great to use if you are looking for pin-point placement accuracy. For example, I've noticed a couple of sunspots on my eyelids, so I make certain to cover my eyelids with sunblock. Using lotion would definitely result in stinging eyes!
I have used this product for several years (only on my face), spend a great deal of time outdoors, and also have very fair skin. It definitely works as advertised!
Never had any issues with clogged pores, acne, etc while using this product... I also make certain that the stick is always clean, and I also use make-up remover to clean it off when I'm not using it (ie, I'm careful not to cause any breakouts!). Overall, I've never had an issue with this product making it difficult to maintain a blemish-free complexion.
Great when accuracy is required - I like to use it over my eyes and eyelids, on my ears, and close to my hairline. These are places that are difficult to protect in a mess-free manner if you are using lotion. The stick has a waxy consistency and leaves a residue behind wherever you rub it so that you know EXACTLY where you're placing the sunblock - there's no guessing and no need to cross fingers to make certain a particular area is protected.
A definite plus if you have to carry sunblock with you for re-application, or even travel. It's extremely lightweight, and since it isn't a liquid, it does not leak at all. It's ideal for carrying in purses or pockets, seems to last a bit longer than lotion-type sunblocks, and is also great for mess-free quick touch-ups.
I would only recommend this for the face, as it is a small stick (about 3/4" in diameter), and coverage of the body would probably take a very long time.
I always make certain I have one in every bag that I carry.

never burn, very waterproof, but too shiny.Dec 02, 2010

I am in the navy and stand 12 hour watches outside, the sunblock stick is great, it keeps me from getting burnt with only 1-2 applications per day, it doesn't sweat or melt into eyes or mouth, when applying you don't get any on hands. Have not sufficiently tested for surfing, but I think will work great. There is a single problem, it is too shiny. When I have worn during watch or on bike rides, ppl thought I was sweating prefusly and insisted that I must be ill. I do not know if this is a sunblock stick thing but I will look for non shiny alternatives.
Not a positive or a negative but I smells like glue.

A bit messyJun 23, 2009

First, the sunscreen itself works like a charm. It prevents burns even at midday here in the Mojave, and it doesn't wash off easily (even at home in the shower).
The problem is that the stick application just doesn't seem to work well. You have to smear it on and then use your hands to wipe it around for even coverage. This gets the sunscreen on your hands, and it can be difficult to wipe it off.
If you're looking for something for an emergency kit of to throw in a hiking bag or purse that won't leak like other sunscreens, this is a good option, but otherwise, I would stick with a lotion. It's just easier.

These work well for putting sun screen on your face, which I believe they were designed to do, but if you are going out to the beach you will also have to take along a bottle of sunscreen because it would take forever to cover large areas of skin with these little sticks. It is also easy to miss small spots when using these so be thorough.
