5An excellent optionNov 04, 2008
By Jeffrey Shames "DrJeff"
I switched from the standard multipurpose solution a few months ago at the recommendation of my optometrist. I was having dryness and stinging occasionally. The switch definitely helped. The lenses are extremely comfortable when inserted in the morning, with no rinsing needed. The lenses stay fresh throughout the month of their intended use.

Supposedly, peroxide cleaning is recommended for the newer silicone hydrogel contacts, since they absorb the chemicals in the other solutions which can cause a reaction. In peroxide type systems, after neutralization you are left with a balanced saline solution with no preservatives, which is much easier on your eyes.

It's amazing how many people don't read directions and ignore the warnings ALL OVER the packaging about getting un-neutralized peroxide in your eyes, then blame the manufacturer and give negative reviews.

As long as you follow directions you will be satisfied with this product. There are 2 disadvantages to be aware of: 1- after neutralizing you can't leave the lenses more than 48 hrs as the solution is unpreserved-- therefore you must disinfect again. 2- when traveling or under certain circumstances you may want to be able to soak your lenses for a shorter time then begin using them again (like after swimming). You can't use Clean Care because of the minimum 6 hr wait. So hold on to the flat case and have a spare bottle of multipurpose solution on hand. Also have a bottle of saline for the occasional rinse (like if there is a particle on the lens).

5Best Solution for Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lens!Dec 25, 2008
By RMC "RMC"
I have worn rigid gas permeable lens for nearly 20 years. Until recently, I used cleaning and disinfecting solutions made by Bausch & Lomb (primarily) or Boston. I was satisfied with those solutions, and did not think they irritated my eyes. However, I did always have an issue that I thought was unavoidable, where if I put in my contacts too early in the morning right after getting up, often one or both lenses would cloud up and I would have to take them out, try to rinse them or clean them again, and put them back in again. Sometimes this would happen repeatedly all morning or even all day.

I would not have considered switching solutions, except that the cost of the Bausch & Lomb and Boston (now owned by Bausch & Lomb) solutions keeps going up, and that prompted me to try the Clear Care solution as a potentially less expensive alternative. It is hard to compare the Clear Care to B&L on a cost basis, because the Clear Care solution is a lot cheaper by the ounce, but you use more of it. I would say that the overall cost is roughly comparable. However, I have found the Clear Care solution to be far superior to B&L in terms of ease of use and how well it cleans my lenses, so I wouldn't mind even if it did cost a little more.

Ease of use: I just take my lenses out, put them in the special case, and fill it with solution (I use a little less than the instructions say, because I am cheap). The instructions suggest that with rigid gas permeable lenses, you should rub them a little with some solution, but I don't bother, and they come out perfectly clean. The only potential drawback is that you must wait 4-6 hours before the disinfecting/neutralizing cycle is done before you can wear your lenses again, but that has not been an issue for me. In the morning, I take the lenses straight out of the case and put them in my eyes -- no rinsing needed. Definitely fewer steps and easier to use than B&L. I find that each 12 oz. bottle of Clear Care lasts me 5-6 weeks.

Effectiveness of cleaning: My lenses are much cleaner than they were before! The problem that I used to have with my lenses early in the morning has completely disappeared, and my lenses are more comfortable than they have ever been, just like new lenses. I had no idea that a contact lenses cleaner could be so effective.

Highly recommended!

4Good product, not perfectNov 25, 2007
By Raine Wynd "Raine W."
I've been using Clear Care for over a year now, on the recommendation of my optometric physician. It works great on the extended-wear lenses I have; my lenses feel cleaner after following the directions. My only caveat is that you still need another solution for the times you want to quickly clean your lenses. This is meant as an overnight solution, as it takes six hours to finish the process. I wouldn't recommend using other neutralizing containers with this product. Per the directions, you can't use it without the provided neutralizing container (i.e. in a standard flat lens case.) Every time you go through a bottle, you're expected to use a new neutralizing container. Be very careful not to accidentally pour this solution into a flat lens case or use it to directly clean the lens, as this makes for a very painful lesson in first-aid for eyes.
Overall, this is an easy way to disinfect one's lenses without having to go through a lot of steps, as you simply pour the solution into the provided container, put your lenses in the labeled sides of the holder/lid, drop the holder/lid into the container, screw the holder/lid down, wait six hours, unscrew the holder/lid, remove the lenses and you're ready to wear them again.

4Great Product -- Too Expensive on AmazonFeb 19, 2009
By Babs Brooklyn
This is the best soft contact lens cleaner I have used. The peroxide method of disinfecting is recommended by eye care professionals as being the best.

Only gripe I have with the product is that when it comes in a double pack (2 bottles of solution), there is only one neutralizing disc and cup included. The manufacturer recommends that you replace the neutralizing disc and cup every time you open a new bottle. So why not include 2 neutralizing discs and cups in a double pack?

The gripe I have with Amazon and its third party vendor is that this product is sold at $30 --- way more than you would pay at any brick and mortar. Add to the cost that I now will have to buy a second neutralizing disc and cup, and the cost becomes even more expensive.

5Great product, but use with careApr 04, 2010
By J. Mandeville
I'm an ophthalmologist, and I prefer this product to most of the multipurpose, no-rub contact lens solutions. I have sensitive eyes myself, and this product is essentially hydrogen peroxide that turns to water when placed in the special case. So it does not have any harsh chemicals once the reaction is done. In the morning, I rinse with sterile saline, and then insert the lenses.

However, I have seen patients that accidentally used this solution with a regular contact lens case, or rinsed their lenses with it prior to inserting in their eyes. This product can cause severe irritation and injury to the eyes if it has not been neutralized first! Flush the eyes vigorously if this happens, and see your ophthalmologist. Always use the special case with this solution. And you have to allow at least 6 hours for the solution to neutralize, so don't use if you don't have 6 hrs.

If I'm traveling, I usually use one of the multipurpose solutions with a regular case, just for simplicity. But I like to use the Clear Care when I'm home.
