Very pleased.Jan 29, 2010

After having several friends and acquaintances fall and hurt themselves while getting out of bed, I ordered and installed this Carex Bed Support Rail from Amazon. It was well packaged and arrived in perfect condition in just a few days. The product is well made and sturdy; it comes with good illustrated instructions. No tools are required to assemble the bed rail; there are about eight sections of pipe that have to be connected with snap buttons and locked into place by twisting what are called adjusting knobs. One reviewer wrote, "... is rickety and not sturdy at all", to which I can only reply they did not follow the directions for assembly. Also, the description of the products states, " ... allows a person to get in and out of bed easily and safely". I don't think it is made to prevent a person from falling or rolling out of bed. My mattress is about 8" thick and the top of the handle rises about 8" above the mattress. Less of the handle will rise above the newer very thick mattresses. This product gives me a feeling of security when getting in and out of bed and evens helps in sitting up or changing positions while in bed. Over all I am very pleased with this product.

Very sturdy grab bar.Jan 06, 2011
By Stephannie Behrens I use this for my mom and it is installed as a grab bar. I don't think anyone should get this item if they are considering a rail for keeping someone from rolling out of bed - that's not what this does, and I don't believe it should be intended as such. It's really for the person using it to have an extra hand hold for getting in or out of bed.
If installed correctly, it's incredibly sturdy. We have it installed near the top of the bed - basically in-line with her head, so she can grab onto it to rotate herself around to get her feet properly on the floor. This way, it doesn't impede her getting in or out of bed.
This is a product you'll want to install in the desired location and then don't move. It extends for about 3 feet under the mattress, and to move it, you have to pick up the mattress. I see this as a strength. You don't want an item like this to move easily, because otherwise it's not at all sturdy.
I would like there to be one lower height option, so the reduction to 4 stars is for that. But I would certainly buy this again.

BED SUPPORTJan 29, 2011

THIS IS VERY WELL MADE. I was so happy I read another review as to how to make this shorter because just by the directions you would not figure it out. It is very sturdy ...easy to put together.........just hold it up to the bed as your putting it together ...don't wait until your finished. I needed to turn the bottom floor leg pieces around....I took off the RUBBER END THAT PROTECTS THE FLOOR. Turn the piece around so the holes are now closer to the floor....this will shorten the frame.

Sturdy and supportiveMar 25, 2011
By Sara Sandberg This bed support rail is sturdy and supportive as long as it is assembled correctly and a good value.
Pros: Adjustable height allows for easy customization. We have a regular king size mattress and box spring (no pillow top) with the bed raised another 4 inches. The rail is set at it's highest level and there is still another 5 inches between the top of the mattress and the rail. It can be used to rollover while in bed or to support getting in or out of bed.
Cons: Assembly was a bit tricky but not impossible.
Overall a solid, reliable product at a reasonable cost.

Carex bed railMar 06, 2010
By Perry C. Gould The assembly directions could be clearer although the small number of pieces eventually leads the way. Labeling of pieces might help. Flawed "push-pin" in the shaft of one piece required me to use tools to fix it before it was functional. I was frustrated and within and inch of returning this product. It is in place now and I will concede it is solid.
