I love this product for its ease of use! What makes it different from products I have used in the past is the method of application and the consistency of the product itself. It comes in a tube with 2.5 ounces and a sponge-tip end. Instead of a greasy type balm consistency, this form of Aspercreme comes in a light-weight gel formulation. It's got a milky look to it when it is squeezed out of the hole in the middle of the sponge, but when applied to the skin, it is clear and is quickly absorbed, without any stickiness. Since it doesn't get on your fingertips, there's no need to wash your hands afterwards. Aspercreme does also come in crème and lotion formulations, but I prefer this gel since the others require you to massage in with your fingers. If you don't do a good job of washing your hands afterwards, it will sting your eyes like the dickens if you accidentally wipe around your eyes.
Chattem Labs, the manufacturer of Aspercreme, says that this is a light, clean scent as it contains Aloe Vera juice. I would say it is less medicinal than other mentho-based ointments, but it still has that distinct menthol scent.
I used this recently for a strained neck muscle as Advil wasn't helping. Within minutes the pain subsided and I was able to get back in bed and fall asleep. It provided me with close to 4 hours of pain relief. I woke again at 6 am in some pain, but not nearly as bad as I had experienced in the early hours of the morning. I continued to use Aspercreme during the next 24 hours until I got over the strain. It clearly provided me with much better relief than Advil. I'm glad I had it on hand and will continue to keep it in my medicine cabinet for emergencies like this. 5 stars.

I have at least one of these tubes handy during the day. The gel is easy to apply to my shoulder and gives me pain relief from my arthritis.

While the product is fast acting and works well, I cannot get used to its smell. I prefer the odor free regular Aspercreme.
