Altoids Sugar Free Chewing Gum, Peppermint, 1.05-Ounce Tins (Pack of 10)

This product is currently out of stock
Description:

Around the turn of the 19th century, during the reign of King George III, the recipe for the original Altoids was perfected by Smith & Company, a London confectionary firm. They were first sold in the U.S. in 1918, at that time sold in small, rectangular cardboard cartons. The tins so recognizable today were first introduced in the 1920s to help protect the mints and to stay neatly closed in pockets and handbags.

Today, the Altoids line includes mints, sours, and gum.

Why Are They Called Altoids?
The exact origin of the name is unclear, but it seems that during the 19th century confections were given names employing the -oids suffix to imply a medicinal benefit (Altoids were promoted for more than a century as a "stomach calmative," though of course Altoids provides no medicinal benefit). Smith & Company also marketed several other remedies with –oids in their names, such as Benoids for delicate throats and chests, Zenoids for an easy digestion, Cyphoids to defend your throat, and Notoids antiseptic voice and throat pastilles.

5Von's Review of Altoids GumAug 20, 2010

Altoids Gum is my absolute favorite and I am saddened to learn that it is not being made any longer.

5LOVE THIS GUM!!!! Why is it no longer available????Aug 29, 2010
By jumpannejump "Anne"
I am a personal trainer and I recommend this gum to my clients as a natural decongestant during their training. No more dorky nasal strips for runners, cyclists, or triathletes. This gum is all you need! It does not cause a slimy mouth while exercising and the natural peppermint lasts for a half marathon and then some! AND, it is sugar free, which is what most athletes want, and trainers recommend. Sugared mint gum only makes you more thirsty!!
Too bad that the makers of Altoids do not see fit to continue offering it. This flavor is the BEST for exercising. I hope they reconsider and begin making the peppermint available again!!

5Love that Altoid Gum!Apr 30, 2009
By Cucina Giardino "KitchenGarden"
We enjoy the Altoid gum not only for it's obvious minty and breath freshening flavor. My husband does a lot of driving and he finds that the big hit of flavor and pleasing crunch of the coating helps keep him alert and refreshed. We also find that because of the strong mint, it also sometimes soothes a troubled tummy. Plus it's not a giant wad of gum in your mouth. We've grown quite attached to that tasty little pebble.

5I Depend On this Gum!May 21, 2010
By Angelique M. Bolling
And I mean that in a literal sense. I can hide tins of these all over the house, as I am constantly losing my inhaler (and the doctor will only give me so many of those). The peppermint in the gum has the same action that albuterol does in clearing the bronchial passages. It's also great for when I'm out and someone else has a breathing problem - where you can't share an inhaler, you can give them this gum. I sure hope it's available soon!!

5Altoid Gum discontinued, say it isn't so!Nov 16, 2010
By Mom of 2
I love Altoid peppermint gum! Please say that it isn't so -- that it has been discontinued!!! I've been shopping all over place looking for more gum and sadly, I can't find it anywhere. There's nothing even close on the market now. Altoid gum has a great strong flavor, which lasts a long time. I love the burst of flavor, along with the crunch of the outside coating. As others have said, it helps soothe an upset stomach, relieves sinus stuffiness... I hope that there's enough pleading from the public for the manufacturer to bring it back!
